What Makes a Trained Leader?

Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed This is Scouting and the Cub Scout Leader Specifics for their position as well as Youth Protection Training.


Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed This is Scouting, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specifics and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills as well as Youth Protection Training.


Troop Committee members are considered trained when they have completed This is Scouting and the Troop Committee Challenge as well as Youth Protection Training.


Varsity Scout leaders and assistants are considered trained when they have completed This is Scouting, Varsity Scout Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills as well as Youth Protection Training.


Venturing Crew Advisors, assistant Advisors and Crew Committee members are considered trained when they have completed This is Scouting and Venturing Leader Specifics as well as Youth Protection Training.

Youth Protection Training

Youth Protection Training is Scouting's child abuse prevention training/program. Persons desiring to be leaders must complete this training and turn in the certificate of completion along with their application. Every leader is required to re-certify in this training every two (2) years or he/she will not be able to continue to be a Scout leader.   This training is always available on-line.
